Becky Stinson, Conductor

Rebecca D. Stinson graduated from Mount Union College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and is currently working towards a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting at Kent State University . Along with conducting the Alliance Symphony, she serves as an adjunct flute instructor in the Mount Union College Preparatory Division. Rebecca teaches elementary music in the West Branch School District at Damascus Elementary.

When she is not conducting the Alliance Symphony, she serves as the principle flutist and is also an active A.S.O. board member. She, her husband Matthew Stinson, and her late father, Jim Dixon, were co-founders of Youth Music Alliance, a local non-profit organization that assists school students who wish to participate in their school's instrumental music program. She is a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she sings in the chancel choir and directs the youth choir.

 

Elaine Anderson, Associate Conductor

Dr. Anderson is an associate professor of music at Mount Union College where she teaches cello, chamber music, orchestral literature, theory and music appreciation classes, and conducts the Repertory Strings Chamber Orchestra.

Dr. Anderson holds a D.M.A. in cello performance from the University of Alabama, a M.M. in performance and theory from the Manhattan School of Music, and a B.M. in string education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She served as a member of the Brevard Music Center cello faculty in North Carolina from 1996 - 2005. Currently, she serves as a frequent sub in the cello sections of the Akron and Youngstown Symphonies and enjoys her frequent appearances as a chamber musician.

Her chamber music studies have included coachings with the American String Quartet and the Cadek Trio; orchestral studies mentors include Nathan Stutch and Carlton McCreery. Dr. Anderson has performed in masterclasses for Yo-Yo Ma and New York Philharmonic principal cellist Carter Brey. She has been a featured soloist with orchestras in Minnesota, Alabama, Ohio, North Carolina and South America. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union College, Dr. Anderson performed with several orchestras in the Southeast and held teaching positions in Georgia and Alabama.
